What does an 11PlusDIY private tuition session look like?
At 11PlusDIY we believe that a parent should understand what a session involves. Below is an example, remember it’s only an example as sessions are tailored to the individual students needs. Some students may require a small number of subject specific sessions, others a more comprehensive programme.
10 minutes | Discuss the previous sessions homework results or learning requirement. Challenges the student has faced or successes they’ve had from last session or previously, seeking to reinforce learning and ensure its embedded. |
45 minutes | Introduce the topic for the session, and the sub-topic. This will begin with fundamental concepts. For example, if the topic is a particular type/ family of Verbal Reasoning question, the student will be introduced to the variations of question types they may face and what the question is actually asking for. The session will progress from answering the questions, to answering the question effectively and understanding. The sessions will also include tips and tricks on how to speed up answering the questions – for example, by eliminating obvious incorrect answers from the choices given. Each session will see both the tutor and the student work though examples both online (using the online 11Plus tuition system with the tutor) and offline through to proficiency. |
Concluding the lesson | The tuition session will conclude with a reinforcement of session, seeking clarity from the student of progression and understanding. Homework for the student will be set through the online 11PlusDIY tuition system. This will be approximately two hours work for the average student per tuition session and should provide adequate practice material for the student to secure a good understanding of the topic and test themselves. Parental Report – The tutor will provide email feedback to parents on any positive points, issues or concerns from the session, with recommendations. |
After Lesson | Students will be set approximately two hours’ of homework after every session, which will be marked online and discussed with the tutor at the next session. Parents are free to email tutors with any concerns or questions. |
Example - 11PlusDIY tuition plan
Below is an example of a student’s general twelve week learning programme, with optional choices for example purposes. Our tutors will focus the programme on the student, which will be different for every student and will be agreed with parents. Note that there are subtle difference between CEM and GL papers. CEM exams are generally more focused on maths and english skills. GL exams include more standardised verbal reasoning questions. But in all cases, the exact type of questions and the mix of the subjects is based on the Local schools and the examples provided by the schools.
