11PlusDIY Intensive training courses are provided during Easter and May school holidays for parents who want their children to fully understand the 11Plus syllabus. The Easter & May courses provide 12 hours of intensive and focused 11 Plus tuition over four three hour sessions, delivered by a specialist local tutoring team.
The course is provided over four days of teaching with each day being focused on a specific subject area from the 11 Plus exam in the local region, The students on the course will receive work packages to complete at home and access to on-line materials before the course. The course will build student's confidence, speed and cement understanding.
The course will provide students with 11 Plus skills and to strongly supplement existing knowledge, increase question speed and provide focus on weaker areas.
The course is for Year 5 students wishing to improve and who are serious about attending grammar school.
After the course, students should understand key subjects, their own weaknesses and be able to answer questions in a timely and effective manner relevant to the local 11Plus exam.
Students are provided with extensive course booklets covering the syllabus. Tutors will guide students through each subject, building skills and exposing weaknesses, with clear guidance in class and to parents where necessary of how any shortcomings can be addressed. Students will complete multiple-choice tests daily.
The course will culminate in a timed Mock Exam to highlight learning and the subject areas that require attention. Additional work will be provided after the course to improve understanding where required.
What subjects will students learn?
The following list is an example of the subjects that this course will cover:
1. English - Cloze questions, Synonyms and Anonyms, Comprehension, Error identification and word manipulation, Grammar extension, Word understanding and Writing for exam purposes. For CSSE Courses this will include focused Creative Writing.
2. Mathematics - Algebra, Bodmas, Fractions, Decimals manipulation, Data handing, Shape and space control, measurements and numerical reasoning
3. Non-Verbal Reasoning - Cubes and nets, Analogies, Odd one out, Sequencing, Codes and Similarities
4. Verbal Reasoning - Word and Number Familiarity, Code breaking, Cryptic Vocabulary, Numerical sequencing (Theorem), Logic connections, Incomplete records and Detailed grammar
These subjects will be supplemented or otherwise by the local requirements.
Children will be provided with learning aids which include handouts, course materials and additional work to complete at home on weaker areas as part of the one off course fee.
Four days of tuition, three hours per day (plus full course pack for homework).
